The Essex and Kent Scottish

The "The Essex and Kent Scottish" was born in Windsor, Ontario on June 12, 1885, when the "21st" Essex "Battalion of Infantry" was authorized. It was renamed: "21st Battalion" Essex Fusiliers "" on February 4, 1887; "21st Regiment" Essex Fusiliers "" on May 8, 1900; "The Essex Fusiliers" on March 29, 1920; "The Essex Scottish" July 15, 1927; "2nd Battalion, The Essex Scottish" November 7, 1940; and "The Essex Scottish" on December 15, 1945. On October 1, 1954, it merged with "The Kent Regiment" and was renamed "The Essex and Kent Scottish".

The "The Essex Scottish" mobilized the "The Essex Scottish Regiment, CASF" for active service on September 1, 1939 and sailed for the United Kingdom on July 16, 1940. It was renamed the "1st Battalion, The Essex Scottish Regiment, CASF "on November 7, 1940. The battalion took part in the Dieppe raid in France on August 19, 1942.

Then, he set foot again on French territory on July 5, 1944, as part of the 4th infantry brigade, the 2nd Canadian infantry division, and fought in the North-West of Europe until the end of the war.

The overseas battalion was dissolved on December 15, 1945.
