Symbolism

The crown represents service to the sovereign. The regiment's badge is designed after that of the Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment), a former British Allied regiment - now The Royal Regiment of Scotland, resulting from a merger - whose badge was based on the very old Order and very noble of the Thistle, the highest order of chivalry in Scotland. The diamond star, thistles (floral emblem of Scotland) and the representation of Saint Andrew (patron of the Order and of Scotland) with the cross appear on the badge of the Order. The banners with the inscriptions "THE BLACK WATCH", "ROYAL HIGHLAND REGIMENT" and "OF CANADA" are a variation of the regiment's name, and "NEMO ME IMPUNE LACESSIT" is the motto of the regiment and the Order of the Thistle.
