Back of the book - Summary :
The Seine-Maritime, particularly “Côte d'Albâtre”, was not spared during the Second World War, especially during Operation Jubilee August 19, 1942 on Dieppe, Puys, Varengeville-sur-Mer, Pourville-sur-Mer and Berneval. This bilingual English-French book was produced for the 80th anniversary of Operation Jubilee. Designed as a practical, cultural and historical guide, it lists the forty-two places of remembrance around the 19th of August 1942, Raid.
Most of these Memorial Sites were mainly executed by the “Marbrerie Rivière”, a company based in Dieppe that is more than one hundred years old, thanks to its unique professional skills in the field and its attentive follow-up. The reading of this collection will reveal all these architectural works spread across the region, the key dates of their implementation, the intentions behind their construction, and an account of the commemorations when a narrative was timed, as well as singular anecdotes attached to some places of memory.
This publication is intended for people seeking to discover this part of Normandy, as well as local history enthusiasts, but also for people born in our region who are generally interested in this important period of the Second World War. Four years of intensive work, sometimes uncertain prospecting, meticulous research, and decisive encounters will have been necessary to materialize this inventory. The reader will be able to use this collection illustrated with many photographs to make a journey according to a circuit proposed in this environment “seinomarin”, or more simply, do a reading of Operation Jubilee history according to a deciphering proposed monument after monument.
